Kristiane Haug

Venue: Fundación Oftalmológica del Mediterráneo, Spain.

From: April 13-30, 2010 and September 1 til October 10, 2010

Kristiane Haug is daily manager and researcher at Center for Eye Research, Norwegian Eye Bank. During the last years she has participated in studies published in high ranked journals of ophthalmolog. She has also initiated studies on cell damage inflicted upon corneal cells during storage and ex vivo expansion for transplantation.

His project, together with Javier Romero's group was initiated in 2008, and results from joint pilot studies are very interesting from a clinical as well as from a biological ponit of view.

About his work:

"One main interest in the planned stay at the Fundación Oftalmológica del Mediterráneo is to investigate whether the presently used ex vivo conditions facilitate cellular stress damage. Preliminary results from studies in collaboration between the Host institution and the Sender for Eye Research showed that oxidative by products in the medium were accumulated during ex vivo maintenance."
