Universidad Complutense de Madrid :: NILS mobility project

Abel Extraordinary Chair - Profiles

Paul Arne Otsvaer

Venue: IMUB, Universidad de Barcelona, Spain.

From: June 1st til July 30th, 2010

Paul Arne Ostvaer is Professor at the Mathematics Section of the University of Oslo, Norway.

The general thread in his research is to study and develop applications of homotopy theory in various mathematical areas

About his work:

"All systematic studies of properties of topologigal and algebra-geometric objects have only been fully comprehended and mastered when they have been reduced to matters of calculations. K-theory, axiomatic homotopy theory in general and motivic homotopy theory in particular, have been developed into major tools for this purpose. In the long run, by working on problems that arise externally to stable homotopy theory we hope to raise awareness of the methods and ideas of modern homotopy theory in other subjects. Our research projects are concerned with the goals of reducing geometric information to a subject of calculating or perfecting the algebraic machinery behind such calculations"
