Legitimization by the past: bibliographies and memory

Although hydrological research was trying to establish its scientific fundaments and the implementation of new analytical methods for each source, other means were needed to demonstrate the utility of the remedy. History did the rest. It made seniority in a job look like a demonstration of experience as it was a more complete view of science that also produced a higher number of publications and knowledge. From a romantic point of view, the past legitimized and claimed the superiority of Spanish hydrological science versus the consolidated French hydrology by means of bibliographic catalogs including Leopoldo Martinez Reguera's monumental paper.
